Hair Trend Prediction 2022
By Lawrence Taylor - Education Manager at Racoon International
I can’t help but feel there’s been a real shift in short hair and barbering trends since the start of 2022. If I take you back to pre-pandemic, often guys were in barbershops and salons weekly having their 'fade' refreshed and smartened up for a night out on the town. When the pandemic came along, socials were flooded with all sorts of ‘at home’ hair cutting hacks and hair clippers were flying off the shelves!
I feel that time has massively influenced men’s hair trends - more noticeably now more than ever. Whilst some of us were brave enough to give cutting our own hair a go or roping in relatives to play hairstylist, a large majority endured the ‘growing out’ stages. I feel this has allowed time to explore playing with their hair a little longer, having to work and manipulate their hair type and texture and lots of guys are now enjoying having that little extra hair length, thus seeing some stepping away from polished, sleek looks and opting for a more textured, un-done kind of vibe.
This year we’re going to see a lot more hair texture. Mullets and shag haircuts have made a comeback and here at Racoon International, we’ve seen an increase in men opting for hair additions. Through the medium of hair extensions we’re able to add in more hair to really play with texture, colour and length and give clients the opportunity to adapt and change their hairstyle super quickly without much commitment.
Another trend I’m absolutely loving at the moment is the revival of natural curl! Guys are really embracing their hair and working with their natural curls to really adapt and switch up their look. With the transformation below, I’ve used our Racoon Luxe Bond extensions in a ‘deep wave’ curl formation to instantly switch up a style. Using curly extensions can also be a great alternative to perming where perhaps chemical services might be more damaging.
